On June 29, Professor Mitchell Walker was called upon to address the House Committee on Science, Space & Technology during the hearing "In-Space Propulsion: Strategic Choices and Options". One of six experts brought in to testify, Professor Walker shared his insights on the state of the various electric propulsion technologies and where they fit into the future of space exploration.

Professor Mitchell L.R. Walker II received the Georgia Tech College of Engineering's 2017 Georgia Power Professor of Excellence Award. He was recognized for this honor during the Yellow Jackets' home football game against Jacksonville State on September 9.
